Making spelling practice fun at home

It's wonderful to see so many Take Flight learners enthusiastic about practising their essential words at home. Practising spelling at home is so important because repetition is the key to children retaining and recalling words. Having a bank of known words will help make story writing easier and more fun for children. There are lots of different ways to practise spelling at home, and it is important to keep spelling practise fun and motivating for children at this young age.

Here are some tips on how to make spelling fun for your children at home.

-Rainbow write spelling words using different colours for each letter
-Practice spelling the words out loud
-Practice words using magnetic letters on the fridge (can be purchased cheaply at dollar value)
-Call out the spelling words in the car for your child to practice
-Practice writing words with paint, felts or crayons
-Put letters on lego, popsicle sticks or bottle caps that the children can use to spell their words.
-Write the words in the sand or in some flour
-Practice your words on a magna doodle
-Use scrabble tiles to make spelling words
-Write your words on the computer
-Write spelling words in fancy writing or block letters
