Top15 Baking with Kahikatea

The top fifteen heart card receivers from Take Flight had a blast making chocolate crackles with the children from Kahikatea. They wrapped their chocolate crackles in colourful tissue paper and tied them with a ribbon. I wonder if they'll share their treats with anyone at home..?

Sesame Street Letter G

This week Miss McGovern's letter land group is learning about the letter g (golden girl). Here is a video to support their learning.

Making spelling practice fun at home

It's wonderful to see so many Take Flight learners enthusiastic about practising their essential words at home. Practising spelling at home is so important because repetition is the key to children retaining and recalling words. Having a bank of known words will help make story writing easier and more fun for children. There are lots of different ways to practise spelling at home, and it is important to keep spelling practise fun and motivating for children at this young age.

Here are some tips on how to make spelling fun for your children at home.

-Rainbow write spelling words using different colours for each letter
-Practice spelling the words out loud
-Practice words using magnetic letters on the fridge (can be purchased cheaply at dollar value)
-Call out the spelling words in the car for your child to practice
-Practice writing words with paint, felts or crayons
-Put letters on lego, popsicle sticks or bottle caps that the children can use to spell their words.
-Write the words in the sand or in some flour
-Practice your words on a magna doodle
-Use scrabble tiles to make spelling words
-Write your words on the computer
-Write spelling words in fancy writing or block letters

Te Reo Lesson, Week 6

Kei te pēhea koe? How are you?

This week our tamariki learnt how to ask someone how they feel.

The four responses we haven't learnt to reply so far are:

Kei te pai   -   I am good.

Kei te hiamoe    -    I am tired

Kei te hiakai    -    I am hungry

Kei te riri    -    I am angry.

We played games where the tamariki needed to practise making the faces of each emotion to help them remember the te reo.

Hub 2 Swimming Display

A big thanks to all the Parents and Whanau who came along to support Hub 2 at our Swimming Display today. The children courageously displayed the skills they had been learning during our swimming time over the last five weeks, making both teachers and parents proud. Some Parents enjoyed a juicy with their kids to cool them down afterwards or shared a picnic lunch with us under the shady trees. Heres a few snaps from the day.
