Every Wednesday all three classes from the Take Flight Hub attend their own Kiwi Can lesson about values. Each term there are different challenges and classes school wide work towards earning points with the aim of winning overall.
Ms D is extremely proud of Karaka because they have been working well as a team and are leading the race at the moment. We were the first class to reach the 'green star' and won the right to Cream Pie Luke. Coby was chosen to do it as he was chosen as the Star this week.
(Kowhai and Mrs Anthony won the term 1 challenge - well done Kowhai)
We think this would make a great piece of writing - try using the pictures to help you write an exciting and funny story.

The Giant Vagrant Spider
Karaka's Weekly Reporters are doing an amazing job of finding interesting topics to report on.
They are learning how to research and then share what they have found in creative ways.
Ms D was very scared when Matt brought in his news to share :-)

Learning how to draw birds.
Last week Stu Duval visited our school and he talked to us about ways to draw birds. He showed us how to draw a letter P and then add details to turn it into a parrot. Here are some of the cool parrots we drew.
Marshmellow Catapult
In science on Tuesday afternoon Pohutukawa had time with Mrs Anthony creating a Marshmellow Catapult. We then created a shared writing piece explaining the procedure of how to make the catapult.
In our writing we are learning to use detail to explain each step closely.

Each week the children from one House become our Karaka Class Reporters.
Their brief is to research and present one one of the following:
1/ An interesting current event - at our school, in
our community, in New Zealand or somewhere in the World.
2/ An interesting science related topic, e.g. finding
out about a type of insect or animal, space travel, wild weather, etc.
Today our first two children reported their news with fantastic success.
Cuban had found an amazing article about a proposed new hydro slide.
He knew it cost a lot of money, almost $2 millions dollars and that it was longer than a rugby field and you could go almost 30km per hour on it.
Here is Cuban being a brave reporter:
Briar had seen white tigers on her trip to New Plymouth and found out that many of them can't see, hear or taste. She made a very convincing argument that we should not breed white tigers - healthy tigers are orange and black and can see, hear and taste and live happy lives.
She presented hers in a movie clip, pictures and reporting.
Here is Briar's report:
